San Francisco Public Works has contracted with M Squared Construction Inc. to perform infrastructure and safety enhancements on Second Street, between Market and King, as part of the upcoming Second Street Improvements Project (Contract No. 1064J).
The overall project is anticipated to be completed in 24 months, starting fall 2017 and continuing through fall 2019. Construction activity is anticipated to start the week of November 27, 2017.
A project open house will be held 11/30/17 from 6-8 PM at SPUR, 654 Mission Street.
The project will be worked on in four segments:
Segment 1: 2nd St – Market St to Folsom St (January 2018 – October 2018)
Segment 2: 2nd St – Bryant St to Townsend St (October 2018 – April 2019)
Segment 3: 2nd St – Folsom St to Bryant St (March 2019 – October 2019)
Segment 4: 2nd St – Townsend St to King St (November 2017 – February 2018)
Please note that the order in which segments will be worked on my not be sequential and durations are subject to change.
Work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM*. Weekend and evening work may be possible, but has not been scheduled at this time.

Impacts and Restrictions
There will be construction related noise, vibration, dust, parking and traffic impacts in active work zones. Public transportation services, the public right of way and access to commercial and residential buildings, including access to driveways/garages, will be maintained at all times during construction, however delays are possible. Please allow for extra travel time during construction and plan accordingly.
“No Parking/Tow Away” signs will be posted 72 hours in advance of work starting, stating restricted parking hours. Please note that restricted parking hours may differ from active construction hours. Please observe parking and construction signage and allow for extra travel time in case of traffic delays during construction. Vehicles parked in the construction zone during posted restricted hours will be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.
